Paw and Pours
We visited Paws and Pours, a wine tasting social for dog lovers at Humble Grape in Islington.
I had heard of Humble Grape before, but I hadn't actually visited any of their sites. They're a very small, independent chain of wine bars in London, serving some really good wine. The social was organized in collaboration with a few with a dog brand of treats, Reva.
It was really well organized. The area at the back was given over just for us and the dogs which was really nice. You didn't have to have a dog to visit, but most people had either come with a dog or with a friend who had a dog and there were about 10 dogs. All of the dogs were pretty well behaved. Some of them took a little bit of time just to warm up to the other dogs, but they were all very friendly and well-behaved. Of course there were lots of Doodles. We saw some at little caramel ones which was really nice. Saffy liked socializing with all of the dogs and the beginning. There was some time for everyone to get to know each other and once we had settled in, we sat down and had some wines.
Each of the wines was paired with a dog personality which was really fun and we had an amazing sommelier who told us a little bit about the wine and what we were drinking, a little bit about the region and also about each of the independent winemakers that had made the wines. As with any wine tastings, of course everyone had their own preference. I tend to lean towards slightly more peary-appley whites and so I really enjoyed one of the whites that we had. One of the reds was not necessarily for me, but it was really interesting to find out about the development and where it came from and obviously just having that little link with the dog personalities was quite fun as well.
We tried a few wines then we had a short break for the dogs and to chill out and then we tried a few more wines which was really nice and then at the end there was time to investigate the treat situation from Reva. We bought some quail balls because Saffy was obsessed with them. Everyone had some time to finish up their wines and have a little chat before we headed off.
We tried four wines in total which for £25 I think was really reasonable and they're very generous with the pouring. And as I say at the end we finished up the bottles. It was a really nice group, everyone was really friendly. One big long table for everyone to chat along and lots of space for all of the dogs to investigate and chill out. Easy to navigate with the dogs. The Humble Grape space overall was pretty and I went with a friend and her dog and we really enjoyed it.
